Full-Day Tutorials

Tutorial 1: Records Manager 5.3 Overview
This full-day tutorial will discuss the new EMC Documentum Records Manager, which is a unified extension of EMC Documentum 5.3. A unified platform means no integration code, no server synchronization, no silos, and no separate store of records. Learn about the new Web-based client for end users that seamlessly integrates into existing content management functionality, allowing users to easily declare, search, or retrieve records. You will also explore the product’s comprehensive records management functionality, highlighting the creation and management of the corporate file plan (including all policies, conditions, authorities, and security stipulations); the creation and management of holds in response to investigations, audits, or legal notices; and the management of migration and destruction processes.
Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: “Technical Fundamentals of EMC Documentum” or equivalent experience and familiarity with records management
Ideal for: Records managers and records administrators

Tutorial 2: Business Process Manager and Forms Builder Overview
This tutorial introduces EMC Documentum Business Process Manager (BPM), Business Process Services (BPS), and Forms Builder. BPM is used to create process templates that model a real-world business process. BPS provides APIs that allow a Documentum-managed process to react to and act upon events by sending and receiving messages. Forms Builder allows the creation of form templates. During the tutorial, you will learn about BPM features, such as activity templates, including those that use BPS, work queues, server workflow methods, automatic transitions, and e-mail templates for event notifications. You will also examine Documentum Forms and learn how form templates can be automatically rendered in WDK-based applications like Webtop and used within business processes to collect data from users and control the routing logic within a business process.
Level: Intermediate to advanced
Prerequisites: “Technical Fundamentals of EMC Documentum” or equivalent experience with Documentum workflow
Ideal for: Workflow designers, administrators, and developers

Half-Day Tutorials — Morning

Tutorial 3: Content Transformation Services Overview
This half-day tutorial introduces EMC Documentum Content Transformation Services (CTS), which consists of server-side products that analyze and transform content. Each product focuses on a specific set of content formats. Learn about the CTS product architecture, system components, and installation requirements for CTS products, such as Document Transformation Services and Media Transformation Services. We will also describe the configuration and use of some of the predefined transformation profiles available with these products.
Level: Intermediate to advanced
Prerequisites: “Technical Fundamentals of EMC Documentum”
Ideal for: Administrators and developers

Tutorial 4: Planning Your EMC Documentum Implementation
This half-day tutorial provides the project manager or document management stakeholder information they can use to effectively plan and manage an EMC Documentum deployment. This session provides an overview of the deployment process and identifies key elements that should be considered before a deployment project begins, such as the role of executive champion, change management, training, deployment resources, hardware and software infrastructure, and network requirements. You will also learn about the different planning phases, from requirements gathering to the creation of a design document. Additionally, the rollout process will be discussed, exploring the typical milestones of a Documentum deployment and identifying issues to consider after the system is rolled out to users.
Level: Introductory
Prerequisites: None
Ideal for: Project managers

Tutorial 5: Building XML Applications Overview
This half-day tutorial will discuss the benefits of combining XML and content management. Find out how to create EMC Documentum XML applications and manage XML content. Learn about the architecture of XML applications, how to analyze the amount of "chunking" to be done, and how to retrieve information as XML.
Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: “Technical Fundamentals of EMC Documentum” or equivalent experience and familiarity with XML
Ideal for: EMC Documentum developers and XML project managers

Tutorial 6: WDK Configurations
This half-day tutorial provides an overview of configuring EMC Documentum Web Development Kit (WDK) based applications. Application layers, components, forms, controls, and configuration files will be introduced. Common Webtop configurations and customizations will be discussed and demonstrated.
Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Basic Web programming knowledge
Ideal for: CTOs, application architects, and Web developers
